Super Wal-Mart divides Bangor

Would you like to supersize that Wal-Mart? Following the state’s approval, the Bangor planning board will consider plans for a new Wal-Mart nearly double the size of the current Bangor location. The proposed development at the corner of Gilman Road and Stillwater Avenue is slated to be big enough to fall under local statutes and also state laws according to City of Bangor planning division staff. At the Bangor planning board’s March 20 public hearing, local citizens split on this issue. Some raised objections to Wal-Mart’s use of Third World labor, the environmental impact of developing the site and its presumed economic impact.
