Students pay respects at Ground Zero

A three-foot balsam wreath, once decorating the A-frame of the Wilson Center at the University of Maine, now hangs on a memorial sight near Ground Zero, the disaster sight of Sept. 11. Joanne Whitehead, the center’s campus minister, organized a weekend trip for representatives from the Wilson Center during semester break to pay their respects and hang the wreath.

Top trustee candidates visit UMaine
By Aimee Dolloff

Some students may not be aware of the fact that there is a single person who presides over the entire University of Maine System – the chancellor. No soliciting, please
By Jason Houle

Let me paint you a pretty little picture. It’s a brisk afternoon weekday and I’m wasting away in front of my Playstation, attempting to pull off one more impossible move in Tony Hawk Two. I’m just a few short moments from victory when suddenly-a knock on the door.

Textbook buying fun
By Michelle Reynolds

With the advent of yet another semester and the remains of a winter break long departed, a tidal influx of cherub-cheeked co-eds return to campus. Clad in mail-ordered Abercrombie sweaters, sporting wallets heaving with Best Buy gift certificates and still digesting the last of Grandma’s fruitcake, such scholars of higher education are once again at their “home away from home.

Presidential pretzel battle
By Marshall Dury

Imagine a world where nothing is as it seems. Where pretzels can kill in a single swallow and the media actually cares. This was the case on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 13 and the mind- numbing days after. On the second Monday in the month of January, conventional media focused an unruly amount of time on stories that really didn’t matter.

The Staar Club lights up Orono nightlife
By Matt Shaer

Garth Brooks once said “I’ve got friends in low places,” but Garth has never been to Orono’s newest low place-the Staar Club. Located in the basement of the University Inn Academic Suites at the corner of College Avenue and Main Street, the Staar Club opened last Friday with local blues band The Nightcrawlers headlining the bill.

“Fat Tuesday” celebration planned at York Commons
By Jason Houle

With blankets of snow and dropping temperatures, one of the last things that comes to mind in this winter wonderland is a traditional New Orleans style Mardi Gras celebration. Well not anymore. On Tuesday Feb. 12, York Commons and the University’s Franco-American Centre will collaborate to put on a Mardi Gras dinner at York Commons.
