Police Beat

Public Safety arrested a man following a situation on Rangely Road Sunday, Jan. 27, at 12:10 a.m. Officer Scott Curtis noticed a green Volvo with a headlight out. The car was pulled over and, upon approaching the driver’s side, Curtis could smell alcohol coming from in the car.

UM explores conservation

Ten members of the Energy Conservation Committee met Friday, Jan. 25 to explore the possibility of implementing a number of energy conservation efforts in Boardman Hall. The committee hopes to turn Boardman into a showcase building for energy conservation.

Men’s hoops takes on Binghamton Thursday

Riding a two-game winning streak, the University of Maine men’s basketball team begins the crucial final third of its regular season schedule tonight. Six of the Black Bears final nine games are at home, beginning tonight with Binghamton University. UMaine is just 2-3 at Alfond Arena this season, after posting a 28-5 record at home the past three seasons.

Women’s hoops trails Binghamton by one game

The University of Maine women’s basketball team improved to 4-3 in America East Conference play after a 64-51 win over the University of New Hampshire last Sunday; but it’s anybody’s guess where the team will end up as the season winds down. Only two games separate the top seven teams in the league and the Black Bears, 11-7 overall, are right in the middle, one game behind conference-leader Binghamton University.
