A man was issued a summons on the front steps of Hancock Hall Saturday, Feb. 23, at 12:30 a.m. As they approached the building, officers noticed a small group of people sitting on the steps. One man, identified as Andrew McMillan, 19, was seen drinking a beer.

Editorial: Lowering Standards

People interested in being a police officer in one of Maine’s largest cities will now only need to be 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license and have a high school diploma or equivalency to apply. Bangor Police Chief Don Winslow announced that the Bangor Police Department will be lowering its education requirements for prospective police officers because of a shortage of applicants for open positions.

Comedian Dave Chappelle stroked it for all of us at, as he called it, “Bangor, Michigan,” last night at 9 p.m. Wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt, Chappelle casually presented off-the-hook funnies. Topics ranged from weed to war to Snickers to sex, and the audience was feeling him all the way.

Black Bears battle for top spot in Hockey East

And it comes down to this: two games, four points up for grabs. All to decide who finishes third in Hockey East, and who, possibly, finishes first. After two convincing wins over Massachusetts in its final two regular season home games, the University of Maine men’s ice hockey team (19-9-6, 13-5-4 in Hockey East) will head to Boston University to take on the Terriers (23-7-2, 15-5-2 in Hockey East) in the final two games of the regular season.

University of Maine men’s basketball forward Joe Campbell has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will miss the Black Bears’ games this weekend in the America East Tournament. Campbell was found to have mononucleosis after an examination with team physicians on Tuesday.
