
The University of Maine swimming and diving teams hosted their first meet of the season Saturday at the Stanley M. Wallace Pool. Both the men and the women came away victorious against the University of Vermont.
The women’s team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 176-124 win. The men’s team evened its mark to 1-1, defeating the Catamounts 147-85.
Brittany Harrington and Stephanie Smeitana each notched two individual wins for the women’s team. Heather Krebs, Karin Feldman, Marcy Barrows, Crystie McGrail and Maggie Warren also took first place finishes, as did the 200-yard medley relay team.
Zach Ray was the only men’s swimmer to post two individual wins, winning both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races. Six other UMaine men won individual events and the 200-yard medley relay team finished first as well.
Zach Weinmann, Jacob Jentzer, Scott Forestall, Nick Baser, Justin Alley and Scott O’Connor were the other individual winners for the men’s team.
The Black Bear men’s and women’s teams are back in action next weekend when they travel to Boston for a meet with Northeastern University and Central Connecticut State University.
