First appeared Oct. 24, 2002 On Tuesday President George W. Bush made a special appearance in Bangor to rally support for the republican hopefuls in the upcoming November election. The many people who headed to Bangor International Airport to show their support for the president and Maine republican hopefuls were greeted by those that gathered to rally.

Conflict heats up, soldiers mobilized

First appeared Jan. 30, 2003 Seven Marines left the University of Maine this semester when the Alpha Company of the 1st Battalion Marines, based in Topsham, was deployed. They were notified Jan. 12 that they had been activated. The Marines arrived at Camp Legeune, N.

Sea Dog restaurant shuts down shop

First Appeared Nov. 11, 2002 The sudden closure of the Sea Dog Brewing Co. in Bangor last Tuesday surprised members of the community and left 60 people jobless. A ruling by U.S. Bankruptcy Court decided not to lower the amount of money the Sea Dog owed to its primary creditor, the WWN group.

Problems plague new residence hall

Anderson upholds suspension

First appeared Nov. 21, 2002 Mark Anderson, the University of Maine’s interim chief financial officer, announced his decision to uphold the suspension of former Black Bear football players Stefan Gomes and Paris Minor Monday. His decision upheld the original finding of the Student Conduct Code Committee that found the two in violation of the conduct code and suspended them from the University Sept.

UMaine students peacefully rally for both sides of conflict in Iraq

First appeared Oct. 21, 2002 When I think about the past few movies and music videos I’ve seen, and what I’ve recently been hearing on the radio, I feel the urge to strike a Tim Robbins “Shawshank Redemption” pose and scream at the sky: “Why can’t I be back in the ’80s?” Even though I was no older than eight before the onset of the ’90s, I can still tell you that the “Decade of Decadence” had all the coolest movies, music and cartoons.
