Gannett dispute leads to summons A man was issued a summons following an altercation in front of Gannett Hall at 12:06 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5. Officers responded to the hall following a fight in progress report. En route, they received word that the original fight had stopped; however, a new fight had developed.

Conference studies sustainable living

Last Thursday, a conference was held at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast to promote the ideas of sustainable living, ecovillages and ecopeace. Speakers came from as far away as the United Kingdom and the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are some six billion people in the world, according to the United States Census Bureau.

Boston has not been a kind place for the University of Maine men’s ice hockey squad in the past 10 months. Dating back to last April, the Black Bears have strung together a troubling three-game losing streak in Beantown. With the first loss coming in the National Championship game, the streak has since escalated this season with defeats coming against Boston University and Northeastern in November.

With last weekend’s sweep of Northeastern University, the University of Maine women’s hockey team will look to continue their recent success against Quinnipiac on Saturday and Sunday. The two-game set against the Bobcats will be the Black Bears last game until Jan.

URI Invitational allows for golden opportunites

This past weekend, the University of Maine men’s and women’s swim teams competed in the Harold Anderson Invitational held at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI. The invitational, in which the Black Bears have not competed for the past few years, saw UMaine take advantage of a championship atmosphere and many swimmers came away with first-place finishes.

Exploring the hockey world outside of Alfond

There are Division I college hockey programs outside of the Hockey East. Despite what east coast citizens may think, college hockey spans from Maine all the way to Colorado. With leagues like the Atlantic Hockey league, Central Collegiate Hockey Association, College Hockey America, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hockey League and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association making up the men’s Division I, the NCAA hockey league is nationwide.
