UMaine community calendar

Submissions for The Maine Campus Community Calendar are free, and can be sent on FirstClass to Rick Redmond, or dropped off in The Maine Campus office located in the basement of Memorial Union. Please include all the important information about your event. Deadlines for submissions are 9 a.m. Sunday, for Monday publication and 9 a.m. Wednesday for Thursday publication.

Monday, Feb. 9

* The University Bookstore will sponsor a Preschool Story Hour for children ages 2-5, with readings by Jane Wellman-Little and education students. This event will be held in the bookstore from 1-1:30 p.m. Call Holly Williams at 581-1700.

* Campus Activities and Events will sponsor Games Night – ’80s Bingo from 8-10 p.m. in Memorial Union. The cost for this event is 50 cents per card with a limit of two cards per player. Call Carole LeClair 581-1793 for information.

* Maine Bound will sponsor a Lead Climbing Seminar from 8-10 p.m. at the Maine Bound-UM Outdoor Education Center. Call Paul Stern at 581-1793 for information.

Tuesday, Feb. 10

* The office of International Programs and National Student Exchange will hold a Study Abroad general information session at 2 p.m. in 202 Winslow Hall. These meetings address basic policies and procedures students must be aware of before studying abroad. Call Susan Nolan Landry at 581-2905 for information.

* Java Jive presents “The Project” sponsored by Campus Activities and Events where groups compete to win studio time to cut a CD and 10 hours of consulting services from Jeff Hyman of the Auburn Moon Agency. This event will be held in Memorial Union from 8-10 p.m. and is free for students. Call Carole LeClair at 581-1793 for information.

Wednesday, Feb. 11

* Stewart Smith will present “The New Emphasis on Local Agriculture in Maine” as part of the Page Farm and Home Museum Brown Bag Lunch Series. This event will begin at 12:15 p.m. at the Page Farm and Home Museum. Call Patricia Henner at 581-4100 for information.

* Maine Bound will sponsor a Beginner Telemark Skiing Seminar from 6-9 p.m. at the Maine Bound-UM Outdoor Education Center. The cost for this event is not yet announced. Call Paul Stern at 581-1793 for information.

* The Newman Center, Wilson Center and Canterbury House will offer a Taize Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Newman Center. Call Sister Mary Sweeny or Rev. Joseph Koury at 866-2155 for information.

* Kickin’ Flicks will show “Animal House” on a big screen TV at 7:30 p.m. in DPC 100. This event is free for students and is sponsored by Campus Activities and Events. Call Carole LeClair at 581-1793 for information.

Thursday, Feb. 12

* Brenda Wentworth will present “From Preemptive War to Preemptive Crowd Control: What Happened at the FTAA Meeting in Miami, November 2003″ as part of the Marxist-Socialist Studies Luncheon Series. This event will be held from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in the Bangor Room of the Memorial Union. This event is co-sponsored by the Maine Peace Action Committee.
