The University of Maine was ranked 20th in the Princeton Review’s 2004 “Best Bargain-Public” category. The Princeton Review surveyed 110,000 students, at 357 top colleges. The survey asked students about seventy questions and ranked them in scientific order. The ratings were published in “The Best 357 Colleges-2005.” The book also ranks such categories as the No. 1 party school and toughest acceptance rate.
Dean of Students Robert Dana said he was very pleased with the ranking and credits the institution’s staff and faculty.
“The University is a huge gem,” Dana said. “The student life is better than ever. I would want my children to come here.”
He also credited the Princeton Review with heping people understand the value of UMaine.
“The more people know, the more people will have an interest in the University of Maine,” Dana said.
Interim President Robert Kennedy applauded the ranking, citing UMaine’s faculty, staff and students for their commitment to the overall campus.
“We are pleased with the Princeton Review’s ranking, which support for our belief and contention that UMaine is an outstanding value,” Kennedy said.
Other schools recognized in the same category include the College of William and Mary, Kansas State University and the University of Washington.
