GSS throws potluck

Mythbusters, Quebec discussed at meeting

The General Student Senate held a meeting Tuesday night and concluded their business with a potluck supper.

Sen. Morgan Bickford, chair of the Membership Committee helped organize the potluck.

Bickford said every year the senate tries to attend a leadership retreat, but it can be difficult to coordinate schedules so most people can attend. The potluck supper was an attempt to do something together that was not strictly business-related.

According to the Standing Rules, the purpose of the Membership Committee is to recruit new senators and retain present members.

Vice President of Student Entertainment Derek Mitchell announced that more than 1,500 Mythbuster tickets were sold in the past week and that less than 500 are left.

The senate also heard a presentation from Residents On Campus Vice President of Programming Sean O’Mara about the Quebec trip, which O’Mara described as a complete success. “We didn’t leave anyone at the border,” he said.

Representatives from Kappa Kappa Psi and the Woodmen’s Team also spoke before the senate.

Other business was postponed until next week because no representatives from clubs were present. After a short amount of debate, the UMaine cheerleading squad was allocated $7,345 to help fund their trip to Daytona, Fla. for national competition. This leaves about $10,000 in unallocated, according to Mitchell.

Allocations to Engineers Without Borders, Men’s Rugby and Maine Masque were postponed and will be discussed next week.
