WMEB, the University of Maine’s student-run radio station, is celebrating Halloween a night early with their Triple Creature Feature concert tonight. Three local acts will perform at the Keith Anderson Community Center in Orono at 9 p.m. The show is free.
The bands span three genres: black metal, Shadar Logoth; dance rock, Feel It Robot; and mash-up artist, DJ Pres.
Michelle Ortega, promotions director at WMEB and organizer of the concert, said the best costumed concert goer will receive tickets to the upcoming Dropkick Murphys and O.A.R. concerts.
“I’m excited for this event because of the awesome line-up. I didn’t know there was this much talent in Maine,” Ortega said.
She said Shadar Logoth will set a ghoulish mood for the start of the concert, Feel It Robot’s dance-rock will heighten the excitement, and Pres will provide a great close to the show. “DJ Pres is a perfect way to end the night since everyone will know the music in his mash-ups,” Ortega said.
The artists involved are equally excited. Cat Johnson, lead singer of Feel It Robot, said her band is very excited to play their first show in months, with their tuba player back in Maine after an extended absence. Johnson also said Halloween holds a special place in the band’s heart, as it marks their anniversary.
Feel It Robot combine electronic sounds, and ’80s-style vocals for a danceable, unique product.
Samuel Denson, Shadar Logoth bassist said, “We’re definitely excited to play the show. We played [a WMEB Halloween show] a couple years back and it was an excellent time. I think even the non-metal-heads in attendance enjoyed our music.”
Shadar Logoth combine fantasy-infused black metal with modern approaches to intensity.
DJ Pres wrote in his blog that he is looking forward to playing. He even mentioned working with a friend to add visualizations to his performance.
DJ Pres’ mash-ups include compilations of modern hip-hop, top-40 and dance songs, as well as old-school riffs and samples.
According to Johnson, the night is sure to be exciting for anyone attending. “Feel It Robot puts on a rocking show, and I’m really looking forward to hearing the other bands, as well as doing some mingling. Fans better bring their dancing shoes.”
A pre-party will take place for 21-rplus at Woodman’s Bar and Grill in Orono from 7 to 9 p.m.
