Student Government executive elections postponed until Tuesday

FirstClass issues make officials bump back voting times

Student Government executive elections have been postponed until tomorrow at 9 a.m. due to FirstClass issues. Fair Elections Practices Commission Chair Tavian MacKinnon and Student Government President James Lyons chose to postpone the election at 11 a.m. on Monday.

“The election application locked up, requiring a restart of the FC server, which cannot be done during the business day. We will be restarting the server tomorrow morning between 5 to 7 a.m., and re-running the election tomorrow,” said FirstClass Administrator, Colleen Willett.

Elections were supposed to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. When election officials discovered the technical problems, they decided not to allow paper ballot casting until the issues were resolved.

“The error in FC was an overload on information to the system which caused the election process not to function. Once all of FC is restarted, then the polling process will actually work,” MacKinnon said in an e-mail. “I am frustrated, but I understand that technology doesn’t always work the way you want it too. The FEPC has worked very hard to have this election so it’s disappointing it didn’t happen the way we planned.”

Undergraduate students may vote by clicking the icon on their FirstClass desktops or by paper ballot in the Wade Center in Memorial Union between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 2 .
