Track teams finish fifth, sixth at conference championship

The University of Maine track teams finished strong, with the men finishing sixth and the women fifth, at this past weekend’s America East Championship at Boston University. Freshman Riley Masters brought home the AE Most Outstanding Rookie honor after winning the 3,000-meter run.

The University of Maine’s Advanced Engineered Composite Center showcased two new bridge-building technologies Friday that officials said will make bridges quicker and cheaper to build and more durable.

University, state and federal officials shared the stage at a press conference Friday to announce the completion of the first bridge to use one of the new technologies and the formation of a company to further develop the other technology.

Resident threatened with being “lit up”

Police reported that three men woke two female residents on the second floor of Androscoggin Hall at 1 a.m. Feb. 17 by banging and kicking at their door, which increased in volume and voracity when the women didn’t answer.
