The US Congress is full of representatives -- 435 of them -- and they are all either Democrats or Republicans, many of whom were the head of their college Dems or Republicans or county political parties, but the UMaine student government can't have someone identified as a Democrat? If you don't like it, you could encourage someone who represents you to run for office.
