Sexual assault reported on campus

University of Maine police are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a female student in her dorm earlier this week.

“On Wednesday, a student came to the police and reported having had been assaulted in her residence hall,” said Director of University Relations Joe Carr.

Police logs state that the incident occurred in Cumberland Hall.

Public Safety has made no arrests, but has identified a suspect and does not believehe is a danger to the community; Carr said he was not authorized to explain why. The suspect is not a UMaine student, according to Carr.

The female student reportedly called Public Safety about the assault at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 7. The assault happened Tuesday, according to police logs.
