An 82-year-old Old Town man died in his apartment Monday morning after his clothes caught fire while cooking, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Investigators said the body of Joseph Madore was found in a first-floor apartment of the 80-unit Penobscot River House on Main Street after Old Town firefighters were alerted by fire alarm just after 10 a.m.
Fire and smoke damage occurred only in Madore’s apartment because it had a working sprinkler device. The apartment’s smoke detector was in working order.
