The University of Maine women’s hockey team swept the Women’s Hockey East Association Weekly Awards just two days after dominating the weekend series against the Sacred Heart University Pioneers.
Sophomore forward Brittany Dougherty was awarded Pure Hockey Player of the Week, freshman forward Jenny Kistner was named Rookie of the Week and sophomore goaltender Brittany Ott was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.
Each of the three athletes played key roles in the Black Bear sweep over the Pioneers this past weekend. Dougherty picked up seven points in the two-game span, recording two goals and five assists in the contests.
Kistner also fared well in the weekend series, picking up her first career point on the opening game against Sacred Heart. She scored her first goal while adding another assist.
Ott had a rather uninteresting weekend, with the majority of play dominated by the Black Bears. Facing only 19 shots in the two games combined, Ott deflected them all for back-to-back clean sheets.
The Black Bears were honored as a team by being named WHEA Team of the Week after the 18-0 decimation of the Pioneers over the weekend.
The women’s hockey team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 9 against Mercyhurst College at Alfond Stadium.
