Kyeremeh redshirted his freshman year for the Black Bears, and was an honor student and star running back for Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, Penn.

“Charles was an outstanding young man who had a bright future, both on and off the football field,” UMaine head coach Jack Cosgrove said. “He was an important part of our team, and we are all devastated by this tragedy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Charles’ family and friends during this difficult time.”

According to the Lebanon Daily News, the accident occurred when a group of about 10 people on motorcycles were stationary when another man on a motorcycle sped down the rode and came back at a high rate of speed.

Trooper Jeffrey A. Hummel told the Pottsville-Republican-Herald that the group of 10 did not know the 11th rider. At least one other man was injured when the motorcyclist crashed into the parked bikes.

“The death of a student is devastating to our community, and we are all saddened to learn of Charles’ passing,” says UMaine Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Robert Dana.  “His teammates and friends should take comfort in knowing that we are all here to provide support as needed.”
