University of Maine men’s hockey senior forward Spencer Abbott was named the Hockey East Player of the Year, after leading the country in points.
Abbott was also named one of the Hobey Baker Award 10 finalists.
Abbott leads the country with 59 points, including 20 goals and 39 assists. The Ontario native was also the only unanimous first team selection, with teammate senior center Brian Flynn joining him. Junior Joey Diamond was named to the All-Conference second team.
Abbott is the first Hockey East Player of the Year since 1995, when defender Chris Imes won. The Black Bears take on Boston University Friday night at 8 in the Hockey East semifinals. If UMaine wins, they take on the winner of Boston College and Providence College Saturday night.
