Those few encounters were enough to paint a picture of his huge personality, his drive, and the love he invested in building brighter futures for his students in the honors college. I always saw him around campus, starting up conversations with students and faculty, and just enjoying the company of who he was around. Not knowing him personally, but being able to gather all that from just a few encounters must mean he was a truly special guy.  As a first year honors student, I had only had a few encounters with Dr. Slavin. The entire University of Maine family will greatly miss him.
