UMaine football names junior Marcus Wasilewski starting quarterback

Pennsylvania native beats out fellow junior John Ebeling, who may see time at wide receiver

A new quarterback has been selected to lead the University of Maine football team in the fall. Last year’s starting quarterback Warren Smith as well as fellow senior quarterback Christ Triester graduated, leaving a big decision to be made as to who the replacement would be.

Marcus Wasilewski, a 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pound junior from Kulpmont, Pa. was chosen to head under center for the Black Bears this season. Wasilewski played for Mt. Carmel High School, where he led his team to the PA District IV Championship.

Thus far at UMaine, Wasilewski has appeared in four games on the offensive side of the ball.  After red-shirting his freshman year, he completed a pass in a game against James Madison University in 2010 and the University of Richmond in 2011. He also appeared on special teams five times last season.

Wasilewski was named a Maine Scholar Athelete award winner in 2010.
