Police Beat: Feb. 11, 2013

It’s a sign

A University of Maine Police Department officer reported criminal mischief in the Steam Plant Lot at 12:37 p.m. Feb. 2. A parking sign was found, leaning toward the ground, appearing to have been struck by a vehicle. The damage is estimated at $100. There are currently no suspects.

Private (p)arts

UMPD received a report of criminal mischief at Somerset Hall at 11:17 p.m. Feb. 2. An obscene drawing made with a black marker was found on the door of a dorm room. The cost of cleanup is estimated at $80. There are currently no suspects.

Hand it over

UMPD received a report of a drug offense on the third floor of Androscoggin Hall at 11:40 p.m. Jan. 31. A UMPD officer was dispatched and detected an odor of marijuana coming from a specific room. The officer knocked on the door, but nobody responded. The officer found John Angelone, 18, down the hall. Angelone consented to a search and handed over a bong and marijuana. Angelone was summonsed for possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Boozed out

UMPD received a report of an alcohol offense on the fourth floor of York Hall at 12:59 p.m. Feb. 2. A female, 20, was found unresponsive on the floor and was deemed to be intoxicated. the University Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded, and she was transported to St. Joseph Hospital. She was referred to Judicial Affairs for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor by consumption.

Window no-no

UMPD received a report of criminal mischief at Hart Hall at 4:45 p.m. Feb. 5. A window on the northwest side of the building had been shattered by an unknown subject. The suspect is a caucasian male with brown hair who was wearing a red jacket at the time.
