  1. Do not know what your print edition looks like for contents but would like to suggest adding to the online edition a “goings on” page listing/describing week day and weekend on campus social activities, cultural social activities and other meetings and events on campus as well as the Orono-Bangor community of interest to students.. Only a suggestion and not intended for publication. I am not a UMAINE student but once was many years ago.

  2. I applaud Sarah Allisot’s editorial in the April 10 edition of The Main Campus “Discuss mental illnesses with due respect”. The “lack of respect” when I was an undergraduate led to decades of loss and pain until I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The only attention I got for my “odd” behavior was from psych majors who often asked me to complete the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. I didn’t know it was because they suspected I might be severely mentally ill.

I am an author and speaker on mental illness. The title of my keynote speech is “The Missed Lecture”. It is what I wish I had heard in college. There is a campus crisis nationwide with more than 1,000 suicides each year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 24.

Yes, Ms. Allisot, all should respect mental illness. It is not a joke. “A knife may scar a body, but a careless word will wound a soul.”
