Campus Currents: Katahdin Building

The Katahdin building was a historic building in downtown Orono across on the corner of Bennoch Road and Main Street. In its 180-year history the building has served as a tavern, a bank an office building and once housed part of the Orono Public Libary. In its later years it served as an apartment building. In June 2009 a fire gutted the building, and in August 2009 the building was demolished.

The Katahdin building, once a historic apartment building in downtown Orono, was demolished Tuesday after a fire destroyed it in June.

A large apartment fire in Orono left 26 people, including 12 University of Maine students, homeless on Tuesday. The apartment contained a total of 18 units and was located in the middle of downtown Orono at the intersection of Bennoch Road and Main Street.
