Wear your helmet, save your life

Do you wear a helmet when you are bicycling, participating in snow sports and other recreational activities?

Perhaps you don’t wear a helmet because they make you feel uncool, mess up your hair or are uncomfortable to wear. However, no matter the circumstance, you should always wear head protection.

When helmets are worn correctly, they decrease the chances of getting a head injury. Trauma to the brain due to impact can lead to various injuries such as a concussion or an open skull fracture. Even mild head injuries, where loss of consciousness does not happen, can cause permanent behavioral and cognitive problems. These types of injuries can cause memory loss, inability to concentrate, sleep disorders and, in some cases, permanent disability or death.

Wearing a helmet during a fall or crash forces impact to be distributed over the surface of the helmet, rather than concentrated on the head. The plastic foam inside the hard outer shell of the helmet provides protection that cushions the blow.

They are designed to prevent concussions and help prevent serious brain injuries. After a fall or a crash, it is important that you purchase a new helmet. Although the helmet may appear fine, the interior could be damaged.

When it comes to choosing a helmet, make sure it’s the right type for the activity you are doing. Each type of helmet is designed for different activities, and each type of helmet is designed to protect your head from the impact related to the particular physical activity you are doing. Helmets are created to be lightweight and ventilated, try one on to make sure it fits properly and comfortably on your head.

While it’s still warm, you may want to consider wearing a helmet when it comes to the physical activity you are doing. People say that it is better to be safe than sorry. Trust me, you want to be safe on this one.
