OPINION: With everything going on in the world these days, parts of society have started to become increasingly more divisive. Even driving around Orono you can’t miss the “No Kings” protesters, holding all sorts of signs scrutinizing the government. While this is well within everyone’s right to participate in these demonstrations, it doesn’t mean they are always right.
I have a very hard time agreeing with the notion that President Trump is even close to a king. So far he has stuck to his 2024 campaign promises, and has delivered on multiple fronts including immigration, education, energy, foreign policy and trade. That’s why people are mad.
President Trump has done a great job advancing his agenda and for better or worse people want to protest and scrutinize him even when he’s moving the country in the right direction. Trump has done more to make good on his promises than previous presidents in recent history, however the narrative is still the same, he’s the bad guy.
According to the White House, “President Donald J. Trump campaigned on a list of ‘20 core promises to Make America Great Again’ — and in just six months, he has unquestionably delivered. From lowering costs to securing the border to enhancing public safety.”
Promises such as sealing the border and stopping the immigration invasion to make America the dominant energy producer and a manufacturing super power, to large tax cuts for American workers and no tax on tips, have been fulfilled, and yet people still believe we have a king.
According to the White House, “Under President Trump, the number of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border are at historic lows and border wall construction has resumed. Last month, illegal border crossings were the lowest ever recorded, while this fiscal year is on track to see the fewest illegal crossings in five decades.”
I don’t particularly think this a bad thing. Having a secure border is something all sovereign nations should strive for; however when we do it, it’s wrong.
Following up on Trump’s energy and trade commitments, the White House explained “President Trump has unleashed American energy independence like never before… and as a result, U.S. oil and natural gas production has surged, driving down global prices while creating hundreds of thousands of high-paying energy jobs.” and “As President Trump pursues his bold commitment to an America First trade agenda, scores of companies have announced trillions of dollars in new investment as they onshore workers from foreign countries and create tens of thousands of new American jobs — positioning the U.S. as the dominant player for the jobs of the future.”
None of these campaign promises have been broken, and it’s not like it’s a bad deal for America. All of these new developments have been of much benefit to the American people and economy.
Companies like New Balance, Toyota, Hyundai, Apple, Amazon and NVIDIA are all pouring massive investments into the U.S., building new factories which not only strengthens our foreign relations but also help to employ thousands of Americans too.
Not to mention President Trump has also been able to facilitate, as the White House notes, “The largest tax cut in history for working and middle-class Americans — including No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and No Tax on Social Security.”
I think that it is preposterous to say that this hasn’t been of any benefit.
This is President Trump’s comeback term, and it doesn’t stop here, this show is just getting started.
As the White House follows up by explaining, “The list goes far beyond these promises. President Trump has successfully forced hospitals nationwide to abandon their so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ and chemical castration programs for kids, defunded biased PBS and NPR, ended woke DEI programing across higher education and corporate America, weeded out nonsense ‘climate’ initiatives, made English our official language and so much more.”
You may not agree with the current administration, however we don’t have a king. We have a president, a president who is putting America first and won’t apologize for it.
