Professor Michael Socolow: The Beijing Olympics, Russia, and TikTok

This week on Anecdote, we bring you a conversation with Professor Michael Socolow.

We talk about the Beijing Olympics, the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the way social media, such as TikTok, is shaping our perception of world events.

Socolow is the director of UMaine’s McGillicuddy Humanities Center and is an Associate Professor in the department of Communications and Journalism. Socolow is a decorated media historian, scholar, and former broadcast journalist with a niche background in Olympic Games coverage. He is also the author of a 2016 book titled Six Minutes in Berlin: Broadcast Spectacle and Rowing Gold at the Nazi Olympics.
