Daisy Jones and The Six, a captivating novel on sex, love and rock & roll

“Daisy Jones and The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid has been flying off the shelves, and for good reason.

“Daisy Jones and The Six” follows Daisy, a gorgeous and spunky young woman who parties her way up and down the Sunset Strip in the sixties. The book is the epitome of the sixties theme and it is a thrilling read the whole time. Daisy is intriguing to read about because she is spontaneous and extremely irresponsible. The kicker is that she is able to act that way because she is everything people admire and crave. She has a beautiful voice that gets her noticed, and paired with her beauty, she is a source of energy that people seem to orbit around.Soon, a band called The Six notices her and brings her on with them. The rest of the story follows their drug-hazed adventures through the music industry and touring the United States during the sexual revolution.

This is the type of book that you can read in one sitting because of its breakneck plot. At 400 pages, it is not necessarily a hefty read, but it is just enough to create a wonderful story that is a whirlwind the whole time. It is a raw read as we go through Daisy’s ups and downs. We get a chance to go into Daisy’s mental state and really understand why she acts the way she does.

One quote wraps up the story of the book quite nicely.

“We love broken, beautiful people. And it doesn’t get much more obviously broken and more classically beautiful than Daisy Jones,” Reid wrote.

The book ends unlike a lot of other novels. The ending doesn’t perfectly tie up the loose ends like pretty ribbons on a package. Some are left loose, never to truly be resolved and are left up for the reader to interpret.

Overall, it is a worthwhile read. Especially for those who are looking for a book that will help you escape reality and have a little fun for a while.

Reid is a New York Times Bestselling author and has many notable novels including “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” “Daisy Jones and The Six” will be adapted by Amazon Prime Video. The mini-series will consist of ten episodes. There has been no exact date, but it is vaguely set to release later this year or early 2023.
