Join the women’s club lacrosse team at UMaine!

One of our many clubs here on the University of Maine campus is the women’s lacrosse team. They are a Division II club team in the New England Women’s Lacrosse League. During the current fall season, the team holds practices twice a week on Monday and Friday  in the Mahaney Dome from 5 to 7 p.m.

The team welcomes players of all skill levels and positions. The team encourages cooperation between all members, so there are team-bonding events held throughout the year to create a lasting connection between the players. Most recently, a team Thanksgiving was held where each player brought a Thanksgiving food or dessert. It was a good time for the participants and also ensured everyone got to have a special Thanksgiving meal surrounded by friends.

The team also participates in a few scrimmages during the fall season to prepare for their spring games. The team has played Bates College in a close game and St. Joseph’s College. The players are extremely excited to play in their next scrimmage against Maine Maritime Academy on Dec. 3. In the spring season, the team will pick up the intensity and participate in at least eight games against experienced teams.

The team also participates in various volunteer activities throughout the year to be active within the community as well as fundraise for travel costs on game days. So far, members have participated in a blood drive and volunteered at a 5k. They also helped out with Wicked North, a youth and high school lacrosse organization.

Working out in the recreation center is not for everyone, and lacrosse offers an alternative to maintaining fitness. Women’s lacrosse is a great opportunity to keep active alongside other members and be part of a positive and empowering environment that will be beneficial both now and later on in life.

Participating in a team sport allows you the opportunity to make lifelong memories that will impact you in every positive way. The team president is Kelly Cremmen and she has been very thankful for her time playing on the team.

“Being able to do what I love with amazing women has been so fulfilling. I love sharing my knowledge while growing with and learning from the women I play alongside,” Cremmen said.

Cremmen, who is also the team’s goalie, helps lead the practices every week. She is a supportive and helpful leader on the team.

“I have been impacted immensely and made lifelong friendships in the short amount of years I have played on the team! It is a great way to meet new people and get involved while playing a fantastic sport!” Cremmen said.

The vice president of the team is Sarah Wentworth, a midfield player who also helps lead practices and has an immensely positive impact on the team. As a student in college, this is your chance to take a risk and try something new, because you never know what doors you could open for yourself.

Cremmen and Wentworth highly encourage anyone interested to reach out to them about playing, or at least attending a practice to see if it is something you might want to learn more about. No experience is necessary. It is never too late to reach out, and the women’s lacrosse club team would be happy to welcome new members.

Anyone can contact Cremmen at kelly.cremmen@maine.edu or Wentworth at sarah.wentworth@maine.edu.
