Letter from the Editor

Dear Maine Campus Readers,

Thank you for your loyal viewership, casual perusing or whatever curiosity has brought you to The Maine Campus; you are welcome here. This is not only a campus paper, but a community resource where your thoughts and ideas are vital to our integrity and vision. Reach out to me at eic@mainecampus.com, through our Instagram @mainecampus or just swing by Memorial Union Room 143 if you want to talk, pitch or voice concern. Our newsroom has an open door for our neighborhood.

The Maine Campus is returning to weekly print this year. Though we will be continuing our publication through mainecampus.com, there will also be weekly paper editions, available for free, across school grounds and partnering businesses in Orono and Old Town. With every copy, there will be favorite articles from each week, comics and everything in between.

In case you did not know, we are happy to be celebrating our 150th birthday this year! For this exciting anniversary, we will be doing daily archival posts on our social media and hosting events throughout the year on campus — stay tuned.

This year we are also introducing a literary section, The Crucible, where anyone can submit pieces of their own writing to us. Whether this be fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, we will have weekly space for talented voices of the campus. Submissions can be made here, with the link steadily available on our Instagram page.

We are seeking out advertisements this year to build relationships and connections with local businesses in this area. Whether it be advertising in our weekly print or our website, we are happy to work with you to develop the right image you want through our talented staff of photographers and illustrators.

The power of a newspaper lies in the diversity of the voices it represents. We represent YOU, so we want YOUR voice. First-year students, local residents, professors or staff included. Our open submission opinion pieces and letters to the editor is a space for you. Storytelling builds bridges between real experiences of an individual or group to the commonwealth. The more we read, share and exchange healthy discourse, the closer we are. The Maine Campus aims to be such a platform.

Sincerely,
Obie Casperson
Editor-in-Chief
