The greater Bangor area is host to a supportive and welcoming community. Few have learned this in recent history better than Peter W. Davidson and his son Dash Davidson. On Friday, Nov. 20, Peter Davidson finalized the purchase of 2 Hammond St. in Bangor. With this property, the Davidsons’ plan is to rent out the space to the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce and renovate the top floor of the building into upscale apartments.
Peter Davidson worked as the Executive Director of the Loan Programs Office (LPO) under the Obama Administration. During his time in the administration, he oversaw the over $30 billion clean energy portfolio that the LPO was responsible for, as well as advancing various loan guarantees. The mission of the LPO is to ensure the employment of various clean energy projects on the domestic level and create a more energy efficient society. The LPO tries to promote an “all of the above” energy strategy. This strategy has three key elements: to support economic growth and job creation, to enhance energy security, and to deploy low-carbon energy technologies and lay the foundation for a clean energy future.
Before he was the head of the LPO, Peter Davidson served as senior advisor for energy and economic development at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He was also the executive director of New York state’s economic development agency, the Empire State Development Corporation. Before that line of work, Davidson was a successful entrepreneur who was managing companies in different languages and found success in various niche markets.
Peter Davidson began his process for buying the property after a medical incident with his mother over the summer. The family had been staying in Vinalhaven during the summers of past years. However, this past summer, Peter Davisdon’s mother suffered a medical emergency that required her to be kept at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. During this time, The Davidson family spent more time in Bangor, and learned how caring and compassionate the community could be during this difficult time in their lives. Having the space on Hammond Street will allow the Davidsons to remain active in the community.
The property on Hammond Street was built in 1912 and was originally a building that served as Merrill Bank. In 1999, the building was transformed into a senior center but was closed again in 2015, with only the lower floors being used to host the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. While the building has had a unique history, its future is undoubtedly in good hands. Peter Davidson has years of experience under his belt, and is poised to be another great addition to the greater Bangor area community.
