The National Football League (NFL) kicked off their season this week; this was great news for football fans as many of us have been waiting months to see our favorite squads get back on the field.
With the NFL season back in full swing, this of course means the return of fantasy football. Whether you are a die-hard football fan or just a casual person who enjoys some light gambling, you have likely heard of fantasy football. Fantasy football is all about players’ individual stats and doesn’t take into account the teams’ record. Without further ado, here are some of the biggest overachievers and some of the largest disappointments of the week.
Overachievers:
Emeka Egbuka: The Buccaneers wide receiver shined in his first ever NFL game, bringing in four receptions for two touchdowns and 67 yards. Along with this, he carried the ball once for 9 yards. In a PPR league (Points Per Reception) Egbuka scored 23.6 Fantasy Points, placing him as the fourth highest scoring wide receiver this week.
Keon Coleman: The Buffalo Bills second year receiver was listed as questionable heading into this week of practice. Coleman has been battling a groin injury that he sustained in the preseason and was expected to not be playing at his highest level if he did suit up this week. Instead, Coleman caught the ball eight times for 112 yards and a touchdown. This earned Keon the second most points of any wide receiver at 25.2.
Justin Fields: Fields is the Jets fifth starting quarterback in the past three seasons. On his past teams, Fields has historically found himself being replaced by midseason due to injury or consistently poor performance. This past week however, Fields was a star; he completed 16 of his 22 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball 12 times for 48 yards and two more scores. This earned Fields 29.52 fantasy points, making him the second highest scoring quarterback only behind reigning MVP Josh Allen.
Underachievers:
Tyreek Hill: The Dolphins wide receiver is known for his blazing speed and occasional off the field antics, unfortunately for Hill’s fantasy owners, he was also the biggest dud of the week. Hill was started in 96% of Sleeper’s fantasy leagues this week and he only scored 8 points off of his four receptions for 40 yards. Hill was disappointing to say the least, but it was not entirely his fault as the Dolphins were completely overmatched to the Colts this week.
Xavier Worthy: It would be remiss to not include Worthy on this list. He is listed as the top Wide Receiver on the Kansas City Chiefs and did not score a single point this week. Worthy sustained a shoulder injury on the first drive of the game and was immediately sent to the locker room for further inspection.
Amon Ra St Brown: St Brown was the third highest scoring Wide Receiver in all of fantasy football last year. With that being said, St Brown only had 8.5 Fantasy Points this week. For someone with the stardom and talent of St Brown, this was a very disappointing week, placing him as the 44th highest scoring WR on the week. Brown looks to make a better showing next week against the Chicago Bears.
