Fantasy Football

I just want to start this off by thanking my readers. As my position comes to a close, it appears that this will be my last piece with the Maine Campus. Writing for the student newspaper has brought me so much joy and I have really found a passion here.

All done with the sappy stuff, its football season. Dec. is here, which means Fantasy Football playoffs are in full swing, here are some of the most overachieving (and underachieving) fantasy scorers from week 13 of the NFL season.

Overachievers:

AJ Brown: The Eagles wide receiver seems to have finally figured it out. After weeks of public complaining about not getting the ball enough and slandering his coaches, Brown had an amazing game Friday night vs the Bears. Brown had 10 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns. This earned him 35.2 Fantasy Points, the highest of any player this week. Brown scored nearly 20 more fantasy points than his projected 15.4, making him one of the highest overachievers of the week.

Seattle Seahawks: It makes me so happy to be able to put a defense in the overachievers category. Seattle destroyed the Vikings by putting up one of the best defensive games I have ever seen, their four sacks, two forced fumbles and four interceptions (one being returned for a touchdown) was the best defensive performance of the season. Vikings rookie quarterback Max Brosmer looked like he was seeing ghosts in this game and the Seattle defense absolutely took advantage.

Marcus Mariota: Mariota’s career has been mediocre at best, after being selected second overall in the 2015 draft, the Titans had high hopes for the quarterback. Flash forward a decade later and Mariota has not been a true NFL starter in years. However, this game showed that the Oregon alum still has some gas left in the tank. Now playing in Washington, Mariota completed 28 passes for 294 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Along with this, he ran the ball 10 times for 55 yards. This performance gave Mariota 24.26 fantasy points, the third highest amongst quarterbacks this week and his personal highest since week 18 of last season.

Dontayvion Wicks: Dontayvion Wicks had the best game of his career. The Packers wide receiver caught six passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns, giving him 28 fantasy points this week, the second highest amongst all receivers. Wicks is only rostered in four percent of Fantasy Football leagues on Sleeper currently. If you need a push to win your next matchup, I highly suggest adding him to your squad.

Underachievers:

Michael Pittman: The Colts wide receiver is one of the best players in football, this week he just could not connect with quarterback Daniel Jones. Pittman only had one reception for 13 yards, earning him 2.3 Fantasy Points on the week, his lowest since Week 15 of 2021.

Max Brosmer: I never hope to see players do poorly, however, if a University of New Hampshire graduate who torched UMaine in 2023 happens to have one of the worst performances I have ever seen, that is okay in my book. With injuries happening to JJ McCarthy and Carson Wentz, Brosmer was flung into the Vikings starting role this week against the Seahawks. Brosmer had 19 completions for 126 yards and threw four interceptions. This earned Brosmer 0.94 Fantasy Points this week, one of the lowest we have ever seen from a starting quarterback. Minnesota cannot have McCarthy back soon enough as they look to face the Washington Commanders next week.
