General Student Senate

The General Student Senate meeting on Sept. 7 began with opening remarks by  President Harrison Ransley, as well as the pledge of allegiance. 

General Good and Welfare

Lauri Sidelko attended the meeting, and spoke briefly on Executive Reports. 

Reports on special committees:

The Conduct Code Committee will be working closely with the University of Maine System Board of Trustees this year, given the new changes to student life regarding COVID-19. Ian Johnson spoke briefly in the commuters lounge. The Honors College Advisory Board would be holding its first meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and will plan to hold virtual forums on Fridays. The Interfraternity Council has its first meeting this week, where information will be shared about organizations on campus, and how to get involved. The Committee on Sustainability will be meeting from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday on the university mall or on Zoom. 

New senators, officer appointments, resignations

Several new officers were elected during the meeting. Kylie Trawick was elected as the new faculty senate student representative. Camryn Hamill was elected as the student legal services liaison. Ryan Kelly was elected as the graduate student senate representative. Camryn Hamill was elected as the Orono town council liaison. Blaize Vail was elected as the Old Town city council liaison. Ben Orgel was elected as the University of Maine security representative. Tessa Shanteler was elected as the Center for Undergraduate Research liaison. Blaize Vail was elected as the membership chair. Alyssa Caisullo was elected as the policy and procedure chair. Angel Loredo was elected as the political activism chair. Isaiah Bedsole was elected as the services chair. Peter Alexander was elected as the president pro tempore. Ben Orgel was elected as the sergeant at arms. 

Sen. Shanteller brought up campus security concerns regarding COVID-19 testing moving forward. The possibility of increased testing going forward on a weekly basis was addressed. The possibility of the creation of a new committee was also discussed. 

Final role was taken, and the meeting was adjourned.
