The University of Maine Student Government (UMSG) held its 10th meeting of the semester on April 1, led by President Keegan Tripp and Vice President Memphis Peterson. This meeting was short, as the Senate purposefully waived reports in order to hold its annual budgetary meeting that determines the Senate allocations of the next academic year.
Senator Appointments and Club Maintenance
Payton Warren was sworn in as the newest senator, representing the Maine Business School.
The UMaine Whitewater Rafting Club, dedicated to the promotion and practice of whitewater rafting, was unanimously approved for preliminary recognition by the Senate.
Vice President for Student Leadership Elizabeth Oldfield announced the completion and imminent delivery of the Senate yearbook, which catalogues facts and photos about the Senate’s current members.
New Business and Executive Session
The Senate had one order of new business, a resolution brought by President Tripp that allows newly-appointed Senate executive roles (for example, vice presidents or agency heads) to be financially compensated for their time spent training. The resolution was approved by the entirety of the Senate.
During the Executive Session, President Tripp presented a new candidate to serve as Fair Election Practices Commissioner. The incumbent commissioner, Zoe Stankevitz, was approved to fill out the term for the remainder of the semester, due to a now-corrected legal quirk that expires the commissioner’s term before other Senate terms.
