11/8:
At 3 a.m., an alcohol offense was responded to in the Hilltop parking lot after the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) observed a male sleeping in a vehicle that was not running but had its headlights on. The man was identified as a student who was inebriated and underage. Officers submitted a report to student conduct for review.
At 4 p.m., a property damage crash occurred in the Hilltop parking lot after a student driver pulling into a space struck a parked vehicle. There were no passengers in the parked vehicle and no injuries were reported.
At 11 p.m., a suspicious complaint was filed from the Versant Power Astronomy Center parking lot after patrolling officers noticed the smell of marijuana coming from a parked truck. UMPD made contact with two students standing outside the truck who admitted to smoking and were underage. A report was submitted to student conduct.
11/9:
At 2 p.m., a disorderly conduct report was filed from the New Balance Recreation Center after a caller complained that there were too many people in the sauna. UMPD said the caller was a local Orono resident and not a student. No action was taken because the number of people in the room did not exceed occupancy limits.
Around midnight, a suspicious complaint was filed from Androscoggin Hall after a student reported an unknown male walking through the building. UMPD made contact with the man, who was identified as a student with access to the hall. The case was closed.
11/10:
At 1 a.m., a drug offense in the Hilltop parking lot after a caller leaving the area reported the smell of marijuana. Officers searched the lot and made contact with three students who admitted to smoking and allowed UMPD to confiscate the marijuana they had. UMPD confirmed all three were underage and none held a medical license. All were referred to student conduct in a report.
At 7 p.m., a property damage crash occurred in the Nutting Hall parking lot after a caller reported seeing a vehicle pulling into a space strike a parked car. The vehicle that caused the damage left the lot, but the caller was able to provide a plate number. Officers made contact with the involved parties, insurance information was exchanged and the matter is now resolved.
At 10 p.m., an information complaint was filed from Patch Hall after an RA asked UMPD to remove a resident’s boyfriend who had been staying in the dorm for too long. Officers responded and identified the boyfriend as a nonstudent, and he was cooperative when asked to leave. No further similar complaints have been filed.
11/11:
At 7 p.m., a theft complaint was filed from the New Balance Recreation Center parking lot after a student reported that an American flag had been removed from the back of his parked truck. With no surveillance footage available, no suspect has been identified and the case remains open.
At 11 p.m., a theft complaint was called in from Androscoggin Hall after a student reported that paper name tags on her dorm room door had been removed while she was away. The student provided the names of two students in Cumberland Hall who she believed had taken them. Officers made contact with the pair, who admitted to taking the tags but did not provide a reason for doing so. The tags were returned and both students were referred to conduct.
11/12:
At 1 p.m., a theft complaint was filed from the Memorial Union after the information desk reported that a rug near the entrance with a black bear logo had been stolen. UMPD is reviewing video footage and has identified a likely suspect, but is still working to confirm his identity. The case remains open.
11/13:
At 10 p.m., a noise complaint was filed from Androscoggin Hall after several residents reported a loud party and the smell of marijuana coming from a room. Officers responded and found four underage students inside. They admitted to smoking outside before coming into the dorm and did not have any substances on hand. All four students were referred to conduct.
Around noon, UMPD issued a community wide timely warning notification stating they had received a harassment report from inside Alumni Hall around 3:30 p.m. involving two individuals with a prior relationship. UMPD obtained additional information that elevated the case from harassment to domestic violence stalking. The suspect has been identified as a 50 year old white male not affiliated with UMaine, described in the report as “5 feet 8 inches tall, thin, approximately 180 pounds, with medium length brown hair and brown eyes.” On Nov. 10, UMPD issued a criminal trespass notice barring him from all UMaine property. Community members who see the suspect on any UMaine property are asked to call 911. UMPD noted in the notification that “no information has been received that the suspect poses a threat to other members of the UMaine community or public” and that the notification was issued in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act.
11/14:
Around midnight, an information complaint was filed from the Jenness Hall parking lot after officers noticed an overcrowded vehicle leaving the area. Seven students were inside despite the car having a five-person occupancy. Alcohol was found in the vehicle, and while the driver was sober, several passengers were underage and inebriated. All students were referred to conduct.
