9/23:
At noon, the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) received a theft complaint at the Memorial Union. A student reported that their skateboard was missing. UMPD responded and officers were able to identify the person who allegedly took the skateboard since there were cameras in the area. Contact was made, the skateboard was returned and the individual was referred to Student Conduct. The case is being reviewed for a possible theft charge.
At 1 p.m., UMPD received an information complaint at Hilltop Commons. The caller reported that someone was making comments about a triple homicide that occurred in 2016 and it was making her uncomfortable. UMPD responded and found that the person making the comments was not a student, so no further action was taken.
At 8 p.m., a theft complaint was filed at Knox Hall. A student had been doing laundry and dropped some clothes, but could not find the items when she went back. UMPD responded and found that the student’s friend had picked it up, but did not know who the clothes belonged to. Upon learning that the laundry belonged to her friend, she returned it and no further action was taken.
9/24:
At 10 p.m., UMPD received a suspicious complaint at York Hall. The caller reported a black SUV parked in front of the dorm with its hazards on. UMPD responded and found that the owner of the vehicle was just dropping off a handicapped student.
9/25:
At midnight, UMPD received a noise complaint at Phi Gamma Delta. The caller reported that the music was too loud. Officers spoke with the fraternity president, who apologized for the noise and turned the music down.
At 9 a.m., a theft complaint was filed at Corbett Hall. A black folding cart and a room key had gone missing. Officers were unable to determine who took the items.
At 1 p.m., a wanted out complaint was filed at the Alfond Arena. A grounds manager asked an employee to leave and the employee refused. UMPD escorted the employee off the grounds and confirmed that the manager would speak to HR.
At 3 p.m., UMPD received a report that someone was unconscious at the New Balance Student Recreation Center. UMPD responded and found that the person had lifted too much weight, became lightheaded and passed out. They refused transportation from the University Volunteer Ambulance Corps (UVAC).
At 11 p.m., an intoxication complaint was filed from Phi Eta Kappa. A student had drunk too much and was feeling unwell. UVAC was called and the student was transported for medical care. She was referred to Student Conduct.
At 11 p.m., UMPD received another intoxication complaint at Knox Hall. An underage student had drunk too much and was feeling unwell. UVAC was called and the student was transferred for medical care. He was referred to Student Conduct.
At 11 p.m., UMPD received a third intoxication complaint at Buchanan Alumni Hall. Four students were found drinking. One had drunk too much and was feeling unwell. UVAC was called and the student was transported for medical care. The students were referred to Student Conduct.
9/26:
At midnight, a harassment report was filed at Hart Hall. UMPD said that a student received a text about allegedly cheating on her boyfriend, but she had actually ended the relationship several months prior. The person who sent the message was unaware that the breakup had occurred. Contact was made with the person who sent the message and they were told to leave the other student alone. A Title IX report was filed and they were referred to Student Conduct.
At 7 p.m., UMPD received a criminal mischief complaint at Gannett Hall. A student reported that his bike lock had been damaged, but that his bike was still where he had left it. He has chosen to bring his bike inside until he gets a new lock.
At 10 p.m., an alcohol offense was reported at Hilltop Commons. Someone reported that several men were drinking alcohol in the area. UMPD responded but did not find anyone matching that description.
9/27:
At 2 a.m., UMPD provided an agency assist for the Orono Fire Department at the Beta Theta Pi house. The fire alarm had gone off and it was discovered that the fraternity was in violation of several safety codes. The Orono Fire Department’s code enforcement officer was notified and several students in the fraternity were referred to Student Conduct.
9/29:
At 9 a.m., UMPD received a noise complaint at Boardman Hall. Several professors reported that the noise coming from the football stadium was too loud. UMaine Athletics was contacted and informed of the complaint.
At 9 a.m., a theft complaint was filed at the Memorial Union. Someone reported that a table was stolen. When UMPD reviewed the surveillance footage, they found that the table had actually been removed by custodians in the building.
At 3 p.m., UMPD received a theft complaint at Penobscot Hall. A student reported that his bike was missing, but he did not have serial numbers, so he was only able to provide a description.
9/30:
At 10 p.m., an information complaint was filed at Hart Hall. A student reported that they had seen a post on Yik Yak saying not to go to Delta Tau Delta because of the Cornell Seven.
At 10 p.m., UMPD received an assault complaint from the University Mall. A student reported that someone had thrown mustard at her. UMPD responded and located three students who were responsible for the incident. They were charged with assault and criminal mischief. The student was able to get the mustard out of her clothes.
10/1:
At 10 a.m., UMPD received a report of a burglary to a motor vehicle in the Steam Plant parking lot. A student reported that about $5 worth of change had gone missing from inside her car. There are no cameras in the area, so no further action was taken.
At 6 p.m., an information complaint was filed at Somerset Hall. A student reported that he had plugged his electric scooter in to charge and it was no longer where he had left it. An RA overheard the student and explained that the scooter could not be charged indoors, so they had moved it to the RA’s office. It was returned to the student.
At 11 p.m., UMPD received an intoxication complaint at Knox Hall. A student had drunk too much and was feeling unwell. UVAC was called and the student was examined, but she refused transport. She was referred to Student Conduct.
10/2:
At 1 a.m., a noise complaint was filed at Phi Gamma Delta. UMPD responded and did not hear any noise, so no further action was taken.
At 4 a.m., UMPD received an intoxication complaint at Cumberland Hall. A student had drunk too much and was feeling unwell. UVAC was called and he was transported for medical care. He was referred to Student Conduct.
