Police Beat for Nov. 5

Oct. 28, 2018 – 12:40 a.m.

Officers received a complaint of a man sleeping in the lobby of Freeman Forest Apartments in Orono. When they arrived, they found the 20-year-old intoxicated and sleeping in the lobby. Officer Sarah Angelo woke the male up and, after talking with him, discovered he was not a student but had come up to Orono to participate in homecoming events. Officer Angelo also discovered that the male was on a deferred disposition from a court in southern Maine and was not supposed to drink. He was arrested for violating conditions of release and given a court date of Dec. 6.

Oct. 28, 2018 – 12:45 a.m.

Security personnel at the Orchard Trails apartment complex saw a car stop near the white fence that forms the border of the property. One individual exited the car and ran through the fence. The guard stopped three males, one of whom ran through the fence. Officers were called, and upon arriving they summoned one of the males for criminal mischief, another for illegal possession — as he was under 21 and had alcohol in the car — and the driver for illegal transportation of alcohol. They were all given a court date of Dec. 6.

Oct. 28, 2018 – 1:30 p.m.

A female reported to the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) that sometime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 27, someone had stolen more than $100 from her purse in room 104 of the Class of 1944 Hall. There are no suspects.

Oct. 28, 2018 – 9:56 p.m.

An officer walking on the third floor of Somerset Hall smelled marijuana in a resident’s room. The officer knocked on the door and found two first-year males who were cooperative and admitted to having marijuana. The office charged them with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia by a minor.

Oct. 29, 2018 – 10:46 p.m.

An officer of UMPD saw the lights on in a car in the Cumberland Hall parking lot. The officer approached the car and noticed marijuana inside. The owner of the car was contacted the following day and referred to the Office of Judicial Affairs for illegal possession of marijuana.

Oct. 31, 2018  – 1:39 p.m.

Officers received a call that someone took $30 from a female’s backpack in an employee locker in the Memorial Union. There are no suspects.

Nov. 1, 2018 – 2:00 p.m.

Officers discovered that an ex-employee of University of Maine Parking Services stole between 60-100 blue staff parking passes when he was an employee last summer. The male gave the passes to other students. Parking Services is still working on recovering all of the passes, and he has been charged with theft.

Oct. 30, 2018  – 12:30 p.m.

Someone stole a $600 mountain bike from the Somerset Hall bicycle rack sometime between Oct. 26-30. There are no suspects.
