Feb. 13 – 4:20 p.m.
While on duty, Detective Drost of the Orono Police Department (OPD) received a call from Bells IGA in Orono detailing two young men who had attempted to purchase alcohol with fake IDs. Jonah Coffin, 18, of Massachusetts and Christopher Miller, 19, of Massachusetts had presented fake IDs and then left the store. IGA provided Detective Drost with a plate number, and the men were located and returned to the IGA. Detective Drost spoke with Coffin and Miller, who were compliant, and confiscated their fake IDs. Both were summoned for minors presenting a false ID. Coffin and Miller have a court date set in March.
Feb. 14 – 8:20 p.m.
While on duty, Officer Irish of OPD received a call from Thriftway in Orono detailing a young man who had attempted to purchase alcohol with a fake ID. Based on the ID, Officer Irish was able to identify Henry Anderson, 18, of China, Maine. Anderson was compliant with Officer Irish, who confiscated the fake ID and issued a summons for a minor presenting a false ID. Anderson has a court date in March.
Feb. 15 – 12:00 a.m.
While on duty, Officer Angelo of OPD noticed that there were a lot of vehicles parked on the street outside of a residence on Allen Ave. Due to municipal restrictions, there is no street parking allowed on Allen Ave., so Officer Angelo spoke to the people parking their vehicles. Officer Angelo then performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that had left the residence and determined that there was reasonable suspicion to approach the place of residence. Officer Angelo called for backup, and then entered the house. When inside, Officer Angelo made observations about the people at the party and spoke to the tenants. After speaking with the tenants, Officer Angelo determined that Douglass Fisher, 22, of Foxborough, Maine, Matthew Hickey, 21, of North Berwick, Maine, and Jeffrey Fresca, 21, of Sydney, Maine, were providing a space for minors to consume alcohol and charged all three with furnishing a place for minors to possess or consume alcohol. Fisher, Hickey and Fresca all have a court date set in March.
Feb. 17 – 12:00 a.m.
While on duty, Officer Angelo performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding on College Avenue. Officer Angelo spoke to Bruce Benson, 19, of Massachusetts, and a female passenger. Angelo determined that Benson had been consuming alcohol and performed a field sobriety test. Benson was arrested for operating without a license and escorted to OPD. Benson’s vehicle was towed, and Benson was summoned for Zero Tolerance, which determines that a minor operating a vehicle while intoxicated is operating without a valid license.
