Police Beat

Sept. 17

At 11:11 p.m. University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) officers noticed smoke coming from a car’s window in the parking lot near Hilltop Dining Hall. A female student and two male students were found to be using a dab pen. The female student was referred to the office of judicial affairs for possession of marijuana by a minor. 

Sept. 18 

At 10:15 p.m. two female students and one male student were cooking s’mores over a bonfire and drinking beer in the woods. UMPD officers saw the smoke, approached the students and said that they could not have fires in the woods. The students were very cooperative and they were sent to judicial affairs for possession of alcohol. 

Sept. 19

At 9:18 p.m. a UMPD officer was dispatched to the fourth floor of Androscoggin Hall due to a strong odor of marijuana. Five students were found to be smoking and drinking alcohol. The officers confiscated marijuana, alcohol and drug paraphernalia. The students were referred to judicial affairs.

At 12:40 a.m. an intoxicated male first-year student was found on the first floor of Androscoggin Hall. He was evaluated by UVAC and sent to Northern Light Hospital. He was then referred to the office of judicial affairs.  

Sept. 20

At 1 p.m. there was a report of many vehicles driving wildly, honking and people hanging out of windows. UMPD pulled over one vehicle occupied by members of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. They were asked to stop riding in the vehicle in that fashion.

 

At 9:32 p.m. UMPD officers were called to a fight outside of Lord Hall. Many men were shouting and being aggressive, but nothing got physical. Everyone was issued a warning for disorderly conduct. 

At midnight, officers were called to the Stewart Quad for a noise complaint. All students gathered there cooperated with the officers and dispersed. 

At 12:30 a.m. an intoxicated female was found unresponsive in Gannet Hall. The first-year student was brought to Northern Light Hospital after being evaluated by UVAC. 

At 12:44 a.m. officers responded to firecrackers going off in Lengyel field and complaints of people shouting. Police found brothers of the Phi Eta Kappa fraternity on the porch of their house chanting. They were spoken to and were cooperative. 

At 1:07 a.m. a minor was found in possession of alcohol and passed out in Gannet Hall. The first-year student was evaluated by UVAC, cleared and referred to judicial affairs. 

Sept. 21

A group of female students reported a man watching them at the football field and recording them. The man is described as older, heavy, balding and was wearing blue shorts. This incident occurred on Sept. 17 but was not reported to UMPD until Sept. 21. The identity of the man is unknown. 

At 11:29 a.m. there was a fire at the ROTC trailer, which was set up outside the Memorial Union. The fire was caused by the generator malfunctioning and nobody was injured. 

At 1:15 a.m. a female student was intoxicated in Gannett Hall. The student was cleared by UVAC but she and another female student were referred to the office of judicial affairs. 

Sept .23

At 11:57 p.m. police stopped a speeding vehicle driven by William Roukes, 20, from Kittery. He was driving without registration and insurance so he was issued a summons. 

Sept. 24

Around 3 p.m. a student left their wallet outside Kennebec Hall. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the wallet when the student found it. UMPD is investigating.
