Police Beat Jan. 26-30

University of Maine Police Department (UMPD)

Jan. 26 11:15 p.m.

UMPD officers responded to a Resident Assistant (RA) complaint of an intoxicated female throwing up on the second floor of Knox Hall. An 18-year-old female was transported to the hospital by UVAC and summoned for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

Jan. 27 6:33 p.m.

UMPD officers responded to an RA complaint of an odor of marijuana on the fourth floor of Cumberland Hall. A student was spoken to by officers, voluntarily gave up a pipe and marijuana, and was summoned for possession of paraphernalia.

Jan. 28 12:15 a.m.

UMPD responded to an RA complaint of minors consuming alcohol on the fourth floor of Knox Hall. A male from Auburn, Maine, a non-student, was given a trespassing notice, in effect until May 15. He was given permission to spend the night as he was intoxicated.

Jan. 28 6:30 p.m.

Chi Omega sorority called into UMPD in regard to a bat flying around their house on College Ave. UMPD called a company to remove it.

Orono Police Department

Jan. 26 1:25 a.m.

Orono Police Department officers were patrolling by the Bangor Savings Bank in Orono when they noticed a suspicious young male. The officers followed  a 22-year-old male from Hebron, Maine to Orchard Trails apartments and watched as he kicked several holes in the fences on the property. He was cited for criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Jan. 27 2:21 a.m.

Orono PD officers were driving on Main Street as they watched a car speed up in front of them. The officers pulled over a 19-year-old make from Rockland, Maine, by the on-ramp of I-95 southbound. The officers smelled alcohol and administered a field sobriety test. He was arrested, breathalyzed and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was summoned for operating under the influence, operating without a license and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Jan. 29 12:14 a.m.

Orono PD officers were called to Orono House of Pizza for suspicion of a fake ID. A 20-year-old female from Hodgdon, Maine, ran from the cops when they first approached her. They asked her to stop and she complied. She was summoned for possession of a false ID, a civil offense.

Jan. 30 9:34 p.m.

Orono PD officers were patrolling on Main Street in Orono when they noticed a car with a headlight and a tail light out. The driver as a 20-year-old male from Mansfield, Massachusetts and the passenger was a 20-year-old from Brewer, Maine. The officers smelled marijuana and interviewed the men. The car was searched and they complied. They were summoned for possession of marijuana and warned for possession of paraphernalia.
