Police Beat for April 30

April 19

12:40 a.m. – A female, 19, of Old Town, was arrested for criminal OUI on Thursday morning. Sargent Barrieau of Orono Police Department (OPD) was on patrol near Park Street when he observed her pulling into the Alltown Market after failing to stop at a stop sign. Barrieau suspected she was under the influence of alcohol. She performed a field sobriety test and was taken to OPD for an intoxilyzer. She was placed in Penobscot County Jail and received a summons for a criminal OUI and operating beyond her license restrictions. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 24.

1:05 a.m. – Officer Burke of the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) was on patrol when she observed a cloud of smoke emanating from a vehicle in the Hilltop parking lot. A male, 19, was found alone in the car and did not possess a medical marijuana card. He was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 13.

April 20

12:55 a.m. – OPD issued a summons to an 18-year-old female, of Massachusetts, for a criminal OUI. Sargent Barrieau was driving on Main Street toward Veazie and passed her heading toward campus. Barrieau pulled the female over for driving 24 miles over the legal speed limit. OPD suspected that she was under the influence of marijuana at the time. She admitted to smoking cannabis earlier and performed a field sobriety test. Upon completion of a drug evaluation, OPD believed she was under the influence of cannabis and she was issued a summons for a criminal OUI. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 5.

April 21

1:07 a.m. – UMPD Officer Berube, while on foot patrol, observed four males smoking behind the Emera Astronomy Center. After approaching the subjects, Officer Berube determined they possessed alcohol while under the legal age limit. UMPD searched the room of a 19-year-old male from Somerset Hall, who admitted to holding large amounts of alcohol and marijuana. He received a summons for possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor. In addition, three males were issued a summons for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and were referred to student conduct.

April 22

3:17 a.m. – UMPD reported to Hilltop parking lot for a welfare check of an unconscious female. A group of three women was found accompanying the subject in a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old female from Brunswick, Maine. The female is not a University of Maine student, but admitted she had driven up to attend a party at The Avenue. UMPD suspected her to be under the influence of alcohol. She performed a field sobriety test, and was subsequently taken to OPD for an intoxilyzer. Her blood alcohol level was .08, and she was subsequently issued a summons for an OUI.
