11/05:
At 9:30 a.m., a theft complaint was filed at the UMaine Bookstore inside the Memorial Union after a female student took a lanyard without purchasing it. The student returned to the bookstore to pay for the lanyard before the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) arrived, so no action was taken against the student.
Around noon, a property damage crash was reported in the parking lot outside Jenness Hall on Long Road. A parked vehicle was struck by another vehicle and the driver left no contact information. UMPD estimated the damage to be under $2,000, so a formal crash report was not filed. There is currently no suspect.
11/06:
At 8 a.m., a criminal mischief complaint was reported near Hitchner Hall on Portage Road. A passerby reportedly cut the tarp covering the construction site outside the hall. No cameras captured the act or the individual responsible. There is currently no suspect.
At 5 p.m., a criminal mischief complaint was reported outside the Collins Center for the Arts. A student found their moped on its side with a broken handle and minimal exterior damage. Without surveillance footage, UMPD could not confirm if it was intentionally knocked over but noted windy conditions. Damages were estimated under $2,000. A formal crash report was not filed.
Around 8:30 p.m., a criminal mischief complaint was reported outside the New Balance Recreation Center. A female student shared that her vehicle appeared to have been keyed, noting she didn’t recall the marks being there before. With no surveillance footage available, UMPD could not determine a clear cause of the damage and there were no suspects.
11/08:
At 11 a.m., the emergency call button was activated through the Black Bear Safe app. Upon further review, UMPD determined that the call button had not been pressed by a student. UMPD requested that the IT department look into the issue. They determined that the app needed to be updated. No other app interface issues have been reported.
Around 1 p.m., a theft complaint was filed outside Penobscot Hall after a student shared that their unsecured bike was stolen from the rack. No camera footage was available to indicate who stole the bike, and there are no suspects at this time. The bike has not been recovered.
11/10:
At 12:30 a.m., a disorderly complaint was filed at Doris Twitchell Allen Village. A resident reported hearing someone yell “Get out,” from the downstairs lobby. When UMPD arrived, everything appeared calm, and no one present admitted to shouting. The complaint was marked as resolved, and no further incidents were reported.
At 2 p.m., an information complaint was filed from the Penobscot Experimental Forest near Government Road. A passerby reported damage to the entrance gate. With no surveillance footage available, UMPD has not identified any suspects.
11/11:
Around 4 p.m., a theft complaint was filed from the parking lot beside Kennebec Hall. A student shared that their unsecured bike was taken from the rack outside the hall. There is no camera footage to identify a suspect and the bike has still not been located.
At 4:15 p.m., a theft complaint was filed at Cumberland Hall after a female student reported that four rings she accidentally left in the women’s bathroom were taken. The student spoke with a janitor who confirmed the rings were still there at 6 a.m. However, by the time she realized she’d left them around 2 p.m., the jewelry was gone.
At 10 p.m., a criminal mischief report was filed in Androscoggin Hall after a resident shared that the exit signs had been removed from several locations throughout the building. There is no camera footage available, so UMPD has not determined a suspect at this time.
11/12:
Around noon, a suspicious complaint was filed on Beddington Road near Barrows Hall after a student reported seeing a vehicle idling outside the hall. After investigating, UMPD determined that the vehicle belonged to a professor who needed to get into his lab. The professor moved their vehicle and the complaint was marked as resolved.
