At 2 p.m., mediation was requested at Kennebec Hall to resolve a dispute between two students who had previously been dating. A male student contacted the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) and said his ex would not leave his dormitory hall. She explained that she wanted to speak with him but left when officers asked her to leave. Since she does not live there, officers instructed her not to return to the building, and she complied.
1/30:
Around 1:30 p.m., an intoxication complaint was filed outside Hotel Ursa after two non-students were seen drinking on the lawn. UMPD made contact and found one of the individuals appeared unsteady, prompting a call to the University Volunteer Ambulance Corps (UVAC) for a medical evaluation. It was determined he did not require medical care and he signed a waiver declining transportation. UMPD confirmed they weren’t guests at Hotel Ursa. Officers then instructed both individuals to leave the area, and they complied.
At 6:30 p.m., a student filed a suspicious complaint after hearing a loud screeching noise near Moosehead Road by Carnegie Hall. UMPD patrolled the area but found no source of the noise or any suspicious activity. The complaint was marked as resolved.
11:30 p.m. report was removed on March 5 due to inaccurate information.
1/31:
At 9 a.m., mediation was requested at Cutler Health Center after a protection order was allegedly violated. Two students with harassment and protection orders against each other arrived at the center at the same time and called UMPD, as their order prohibits any interaction. Officers determined the situation was an “incident of contact” rather than a direct violation, as both students were seeking medical services and unintentionally crossed paths. One agreed to reschedule their appointment and then the matter was marked as resolved.
2/1:
At 2 a.m., a noise complaint was filed from Somerset Hall after reports of loud talking in a dorm hallway. UMPD responded and found a small group of students gathered, identified as the source of the noise. Officers instructed them to return to their rooms, and they complied, resolving the situation.
At 9 a.m., a missing person complaint was filed from Androscoggin Hall after roommates reported that their roommate had not returned overnight. Officers located the student sleeping in his car. He explained that he had locked himself out but, not wanting to disturb his roommates late at night, chose to sleep outside. UMPD informed him that they are available to unlock dorm rooms in such situations, which is a service offered to all UMaine students.
Around 11 p.m., a drug complaint was filed from Knox Hall after a Resident Assistant discovered “assorted paraphernalia” in a shared dorm while the occupants were away. UMPD made contact with one student, who claimed the items belonged to his roommate. This was later confirmed in a phone conversation between the roommate and officers. UMPD took possession of the paraphernalia and destroyed it. A report was then completed and the students were referred to conduct.
2/2:
At 5 p.m., a disorderly conduct complaint was filed from the Recreation Center after two male students were reported to be arguing loudly on the basketball court. UMPD made contact with one student, who explained that a disagreement started after the other player became overly aggressive in what was meant to be a casual game. The other student had already left a few minutes before officers arrived. After consulting with Recreation Center staff, officers determined that the remaining student should leave for the day but could return the following day. The student agreed and left the premises.
2/3:
At 11 p.m., a drug complaint was filed anonymously through Campus Eyes from Knox Hall after reports of a strong marijuana odor coming from a dorm room. Responding officers made contact with the male resident, who admitted to smoking and believed it was allowed since he was of legal age. UMPD reminded him that smoking and drug use are prohibited on campus regardless of legality and confiscated the substances. A report was completed and the student was referred to conduct.
2/4:
At 10 a.m., an engineering student contacted UMPD to report falling victim to a scam and sought help recovering their money. The student explained they had used a machine in Bangor to convert cash into cryptocurrency, which was then sent to individuals posing as U.S. Marshals demanding payment to avoid court proceedings for a fabricated crime. UMPD informed the student that they could not assist in recovering the funds and advised them to cease contact with the scammers. The student agreed and the matter was marked resolved. Students unsure about the legitimacy of any situation, especially those involving money transfers, are encouraged to contact UMPD for guidance.

At 6 p.m., a drug complaint was filed from Knox Hall after a student reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from a dorm room. UMPD responded but upon arrival only detected a faint odor in the hallway that could not be traced to a specific room. While no source was identified, UMPD stated they will continue to investigate due to the volume of similar reports from Knox Hall.
Around 11:30 p.m., a suspicious complaint was filed at Somerset Hall after a student reported a group of six individuals smoking in the parking lot. When UMPD arrived and flashed their headlights on the group, all six fled into the building. Officers entered the hall but were unable to locate anyone to speak with, as the individuals had returned to their rooms. The matter was subsequently marked resolved.
