2/18:

At 1:30 a.m., a harassment complaint was filed at Oxford Hall after a prank between two male students escalated into a perceived threat. One student claimed a kidnapping threat against the other student was a joke, but the University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) informed him that it was considered threatening. Officers issued the student a harassment notice, as the other party believed the threat was real. A report was completed and the prankster was referred to conduct.

At 12:30 p.m., UMPD received an email from a student who said he cannot attend classes due to illness. The email was forwarded to the office of Student Life and the student was advised to contact his class instructors in the future.

At 11 p.m., a criminal mischief complaint was filed at Oxford Hall after janitorial staff discovered several leaking faucets in the gender-neutral bathroom on the east wing of the second floor. While staff suspected intentional damage, responding officers found the faucets were loose but not deliberately tampered with. UMPD ruled it a facilities issue, requested maintenance and marked the case resolved.

At 8:30 p.m., UMPD formally completed their investigation into an alcohol offense at the Feb. 15 hockey game at Alfond Sports Arena. Officers responded to reports of a heavily intoxicated underage student. The student was responsive and declined a ride home from officers after friends offered to take him instead. It was determined that University Volunteer Ambulance Corps (UVAC) services were not required. A report was filed and the student was referred to conduct.

2/22:

At 1:30 a.m., a suspicious complaint was filed at Cumberland Hall after a student reported a male resident screaming into his phone in the third floor hallway. UMPD responded but was unable to locate the student. The matter was marked resolved, and no similar reports were filed from the hall in the following days.

At 8 p.m., a suspicious complaint was filed at Androscoggin Hall after multiple residents reported fire concerns, stating that three male students were cooking over a bonfire and drinking alcohol in front of the building. UMPD responded but found no evidence of a bonfire or alcoholic beverages. Instead, the students were cooking hotdogs over a small grill. Officers notified the fire department and instructed the students to stop cooking and remove the grill. They were given a warning but were not reported to conduct since no open fire violation was found.

At 8 p.m., an alcohol offense was filed at Somerset Hall after someone reported an underage male student carrying a case of beer to his dorm. Officers responded and contacted the student, who initially claimed to be 20 years old, but was found to be 19 years old. He had not yet consumed the alcohol and was instructed to pour it down the sink. A report was completed and the student was referred to conduct.

Around 11 p.m., a drug offense was filed near Somerset Hall after UMPD received a report of a student smoking marijuana outside the building. Responding officers found two male students in the area but did not locate any drugs. Officers noticed a strong smell of marijuana, but the students denied smoking. They were instructed to leave and were referred to conduct.

At 11 p.m., an intoxication complaint was filed at Hart Hall after someone reported a student sleeping in the common room. Responding officers woke him and confirmed he was underage and had been drinking. UVAC arrived, conducted a medical evaluation and determined he did not need hospital transport. A report was completed and the student was referred to conduct.

At 11 p.m., another intoxication complaint was filed after UMPD received a report of a male student drinking a can of beer in a hallway at Somerset Hall. Responding officers confirmed the student was underage but not visibly intoxicated. They instructed him to pour out the beer in a bathroom. The student was referred to conduct.

2/23:

At 10 p.m., a criminal mischief complaint was filed at Cumberland Hall after a student reported that emergency lights on the west side of the fourth floor had been vandalized with vulgar language. UMPD contacted facilities for repairs, but due to a lack of clear camera footage there is no suspect at this time.

At 5:30 p.m., an agency assist was requested after the University of Rhode Island Police Department sent a criminal trespass notice involving a UMaine student. UMPD located the student and issued the notice. No further details were provided on why it was issued.
