Cross Country travels to New Hampshire for second meet of the season

On Saturday, Sept. 8, the men and women’s cross country teams traveled to Hanover, N.H. to compete in the Maribel Sanchez Southern Cross Country Invitational. The women’s team places fourth and the men’s team placed third out of four teams.

On the women’s side, fourth-year Haley Lawrence was the first finisher for the Black Bears. She came in 24th overall with a time of 23:32.62, with a split time of 6:18.9. Next for the Black Bears was second-year Emma Jourdain, who placed 29th overall. She had a time of 23:42.72. After this came fourth-year Faith Gardner with a time of 24:58.55 in 37th place. Fourth-year Hope Gardner and third-year Eliza Bennett finished back-to-back for UMaine with times of 25:35.03 and 25:45.14 respectively. Then came Hartford third-year runner Kadreya Simeon followed by three more Black Bears. Third-year Kate Macolni finished with a time of 26:08.98, second-year Sara Hunt had a time of 26:10.20 and second-year Cassandra Lucci finished with a time of 26:11.69. Dartmouth’s second-year Glendora Murphy won the meet with a time of 21:28.92. Maine came in last with 103 points, while Dartmouth won the meet with 19 points.

For the men, fourth-year Aaron Willingham finished seventh overall and first for the Black Bears. His time was 25:02.59 with a split time of 5:02.3. Next was fourth-year Daniel Lesko in 18th place overall and second for the Black bears. He finished with time of 26:02.04. Then came third-year Colin Tardiff with a time of 26:28.36 in 29th place. Two Black Bears came in back-to-back for 34th and 35th place. Second-year Ethan Orach had a time of 27:07.34, while first-year James Olivier had a time of 27:37.66. Then came two more Hartford runners followed by two more runners for Maine. First-year Travis Nickerson came in with a time of 29:51.78 and Third-year Cooper Nelson came in with a time of 30:06.18. Second-year Patrick O’Brien from Dartmouth won the meet with a time of 24:44.66. The Black Bears came in third with 88 points. Dartmouth won with 16 points.

Both teams will face University of New Hampshire in their next meet on Friday, Sept. 14. This will be a home meet with a start time of 3 p.m.
