Police Beat for April 10

9:58 p.m. – 

University of Maine Police Department (UMPD) responded to a resident assistant (RA) report of underage drinking in Penobscot Hall. Upon arrival, the officer found six people in the room, two of which had not been drinking.

All of the students were summonsed for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

March 27

2:13 a.m. – Hypothetically

UMPD responded to a complaint of an assault earlier in the night. A man, who police met at Kennebec Hall, claimed that he was pushed down the stairs at Phi Kappa Sigma. According to the police report, over the phone, he said that he was “hypothetically” drunk.

An ambulance attempted to clear the man medically, but he refused treatment. The man was referred to Judicial Affairs (JA) for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Officers went to Phi Kappa Sigma, but they didn’t know of any incident.

March 28

4:03 p.m. – Indigo

UMPD responded to a call to Old Town Police, referencing a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident in Old Town. The accident did not leave any serious damage. The car was located by UMPD and pulled over. The man, 19 of Bangor, was summonsed for leaving the scene of an accident and not having insurance.

March 31

11:54 p.m. – Alfond of each other

UMPD responded to a complaint of a couple on the roof of Alfond Arena. Upon arrival, officers saw two backpacks containing alcohol at the bottom of the arena. Officers made contact with the couple, who were both students. They ordered the couple down and called Orono Fire to assist. A student, was referred for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. The student and the female with him were both referred to JA.

April 2

12:54 a.m. – Unconditional flub

UMPD officers conducted a traffic stop after a car was observed going 44 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. While walking up to the car, officers observed a bottle of gin in the back seat. The driver, was found to be out on conditional release. The driver was summonsed for illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor and arrested violation of conditional release. He was transported to Penobscot County Jail.

April 6

11:05 a.m. – Over-condensation

UMPD responded to a trespassing complaint at the Keyo Building, referencing a van that smelled like marijuana. Officers found a roach in the van, and no one knew why it was in there. Officers believed that someone got into the unlocked van and smoked marijuana. Additionally, a phallic drawing was found on the windshield. This matter is under investigation.
